M&A News: Robinhood Stock (HOOD) Jumps on WonderFi Crypto Expansion

Stock and crypto exchange Robinhood (HOOD) announced plans to expand its operations in Canada via the purchase of crypto exchange operator WonderFi (WNDR). WonderFi is an attractive acquisition for HOOD as it owns Bitbuy and Coinsquare, and has C$2.1 billion in assets under custody.

Robinhood’s deal for WonderFi totals C$250 million. The exchange operator has agreed to pay 36 Canadian cents per share for WNDR stock, which represents a 41% premium to the previous closing price. It’s also a hefty 71% premium to the 30-day volume-weighted average trading price of WonderFi’s shares.

Robinhood and WonderFi expect the acquisition to close in the second half of 2025, following regulatory and shareholder approvals. When it does, WonderFi’s employees will join Robinhood’s Canadian team of about 140 workers. This expands its operations in the country, which launched in 2024 with the creation of its Canadian headquarters in 2024.

How This Deal Affects HOOD Stock

Robinhood’s plan to acquire WonderFI and expand its operations in Canada appears to have pleased investors on Tuesday. Shares of HOOD stock gained 5.96%, extending its 63.5% rally year-to-date.

Robinhood has faced challenges in 2025, but is currently up alongside Bitcoin (BTC). The crypto has surged over 10% in 2025, which resulted in it breaking past the $100,000 per token mark. That’s excited BTC investors as the token remains a strong bet while stock investors continue to struggle with a weakened market due to macro factors.

Is HOOD Stock a Buy, Hold, or Sell?

Turning to Wall Street, the analysts’ consensus rating for Robinhood is Moderate Buy, based on 14 Buy and six Hold ratings over the past three months. With that comes an average HOOD stock price target of $60.94, representing a potential 0.59% downside for the shares.
